Experience the Timeless History
The history of our building dates back 200 years to the start of the state’s first bank, Society for Savings. After moving operations for the bank to different buildings, its first real home, a one-story brick building was constructed at the Pratt Street location.
Over the years, it was rebuilt a few times and underwent renovations including to the interior and both the ground and upper floors from various architects. The building moved from a Renaissance Revival style to an interior done in 1926 with ornate plasterwork and ceiling murals reminiscent of the era’s intricate and elaborate style.
Two of the building’s most noted features – a large ornate bank vault and two massive hand-carved oak doors – are still in use today.
Now known as The Society Room of Hartford, the building not only continues to be home to historical grandeur, but there is a new Mezzanine, Victorian Room and Cottage (pub) and the location serves as a venue that’s unique, dramatic, and unforgettable for special occasions.
